Yağmuru Düğümlemek, Abramović Institute ve Museum Schloos Moyland iş birliğiyle gerçekleşen MAI&Beuys programı kapsamında, Museum Schloss Moyland bahçesinde gerçekleştirdiğim Kamuflaj performansın bir devamı olarak, aynı sergi programı içindeki Festum Floxorum 2.0 isimli festivalde ortaya çıkmıştır.
Bu performans, Kamuflaj performansının son gününde yağan sağanak yağmurdan ve kaybettiğim köpeğimin isminden ilhamla ortaya çıktı. Kamuflaj sırasında bedenim suyun içinde, bitkiler ve çamurla sürekli temas hâlindeyken, hareketim yavaşlıyor, yön değiştiriyor ve dış koşullarla belirleniyordu. Yağmur, bu deneyimde her şeyi dönüştüren bir eşik anına dönüştü.
Yağmuru Düğümlemek, bu deneyimin ardından, kontrol edilemeyen bir doğa olayına bedensel ve zamansal bir karşılık verme ihtiyacından doğdu.
Bir ağacın dallarına asılmış uzun örgü şeritler üzerinde, yağmur altında çalışıyorum. Örgü, zamanı yavaşlatan ve tekrar eden bir eylemken, yağmur sürekli akan ve tutulamayan bir kuvvet. Bu performansta, akıp giden bir şeyi düğümleyerek askıya almaya, en azından onunla birlikte kalmaya çalışıyorum.
Kullandığım örgü motifleri, erken yaşlarda yaptığım ilk bileklik örgülerini ve yağmur damlalarını andırıyor. Bedenin hafızasında yer etmiş bu basit ve tanıdık formlar, yağmur, soğuk ve yorgunlukla birleşerek kişisel bir dayanıklılık pratiğine dönüşüyor.
Yağmur tutulamaz; ama düğümlenebilir.
Knitting the Rain is a performance, video, and installation
project that emerges from an attempt to hold onto something that cannot be
held. Rain appears here not only as a natural phenomenon, but as a metaphor for
loss, mourning, and the impossibility of preservation. It falls continuously,
without memory, without intention—yet it leaves traces on bodies, surfaces, and
time.
The project takes its starting point from a personal
experience of grief. The name “Yağmur” (Rain) refers to the artist’s dog, whose
death marked a rupture in daily life and initiated a long process of quiet
endurance. Rather than representing this loss directly, the work approaches it
through repetitive gestures and fragile actions that mirror the slow, uneven
rhythm of mourning.
At the center of the project is a durational performance in
which the artist attempts to “knot” or “knit” the rain using handmade textile
elements. These knitted strips are tied to tree branches, suspended in open
space, or carried on the body. The act itself is futile: rain cannot be
gathered, tied, or stopped. Yet the persistence of the gesture becomes
meaningful. The performance does not aim to control nature, but to remain with
it—to stay exposed, wet, and patient.
The video component documents these actions in real time,
emphasizing duration rather than spectacle. There is no climax, only
accumulation: water soaking into fabric, fabric becoming heavier, movements
slowing down. The camera follows the body as it negotiates fatigue, cold, and
repetition, allowing the viewer to witness time as a physical condition rather
than a narrative structure.
